The dangers of wearing white

You know I've been all about white for quite a while now. I love its face-illuminating prowess, its ability to brighten things up.. That said, however, white is tricky. First of all a head to toe white dress can only read bridal. Like so:

A nice gown (Ralph Lauren), but Blanchett is not renewing her vows..

The gown is an alteration from the runway, but the original look does not detract from my point, au contraire:

Perhaps not a bride, but an odd PJ? Either way, it is an awkward look. And its a shame, because it would have rocked with gray pants..

White has to be carefully calbirated based on the wearer's skin tone. If you are rather fair try a shade of white with some blue in it rather than a creamy, off-white tone in order to set off your skin and avoid looking like a friendly ghost. Think of Nicole Kidman's white dress from the previous post - washing her out rather than rejuvenating her.. conversely, if your skin is dark try a more nuanced shade of white. But do try, white, an all-year-round white can look spectacular!

Careful with your whites, ladies!
